The other evening, my husband and I got together with our son and his family for a family dinner. While we were getting things together, my five-year-old grandson kept running around saying "but dot dot dot." Or "and then dot dot dot." I finally asked what he was talking about and was informed that he was learning about ellipses and how they mean you have to wait.
dot dot dot - as in: but... or: and then...
ellipses
From a five-year-old. And he knew exactly what they meant. I know over-aged adults who don't know what an ellipsis is. I probably didn't know what they were until I was in college. And even now, I get confused at times whether to use an ellipsis or dash. (Please don't email me about the difference - my grandson has made the lesson quite clear to me!) :)
His intelligence continually astounds me and his grasp of concepts that many adults can't comprehend. And yet, five minutes later, he was teasing his baby sister and being the little imp that he can be. Like any five-year-old.
dot dot dot
Many times in life, we just need a different perspective...so take a ride on the ceiling fan - but the black Pegasus blade is mine.

Frustrations
Everyone gets frustrated. It is part and parcel of life, especially of late. Today is one of "those" days for me - nothing seems to be going right, I'm making mistakes that are costing me time, and I've gotten nothing but rejections of late, I have bills to pay and taxes to confront. Plus it's Monday. And it's raining. And... you get the idea.
So, I guess I have a choice. I can sit here and wallow in my misery and grouch at the world in general, or I can figure out a way to overcome the blues and get something done. So... time to flip a coin:
heads = wallow
tails = do something else
(flipping)....
Tails (honest! I threw the nickle up in the air and it came down tails) so... time to get off my duff and do something positive.
So to that end, I am going to spend some time today reading a good book and doing an agent search for my new WIP. And look for the spots of sunshine in between the clouds.
