Four of my writing friends and I were commiserating a few weeks ago about how none of us seemed to have the energy to write. Or edit. Or anything. We were all in a slump. So one of us offered a challenge. Over the summer, we'd write and edit as much as we could and get points - one point for each page written, one point for every five pages of editing done. And it had to be our own stuff. The winner of each weekly challenge would receive a gift card from Barnes & Noble. So we each threw some money into the pot and we were off and running.
Now you have to understand, all five of us are extremely competitive. So if one wrote ten pages, the next would have to write eleven. And so on. Our output was incredible. The first few weeks, I was in the middle of the bunch. Last week, I won. This week, I'll probably come out on the bottom - mostly because I haven't been concentrating on writing this week - or, at least, not too much. I mean, after all, it was my anniversary. Hubby took off work, so I figured I should too. :)
But that leaves me three more days in this week's challenge (our challenge week runs from Monday through Sunday). So tonight I get to work.
The race is on. ;)
In the meantime, I am searching out places to submit my fantasy novel, Blood Harp. I truly love this book, but have not yet been able to find a home for it. It's won several contests, finalled in others and I'm getting very good comments from crit partners and the rejections I have gotten have been positive. Yes, still rejections, but I keep hoping.
So keep your fingers crossed. And I'll let you know what happens.
Many times in life, we just need a different perspective...so take a ride on the ceiling fan - but the black Pegasus blade is mine.

And the winner is....
Beth!
Thank you all for the good wishes and the suggestions. Since it is pouring rain, a nice long walk in the park (what we were probably going to do) is not high on our list so maybe a trip to the bookstore instead. :)
May you all have a wonderful day and, if you are married, as wonderful a life as I've had so far.
Here's to the next 35! :)

Anniversaries and a Contest!
On Monday, my hubby and I will celebrate our 35th anniversary. Over the past few months we've been trying to figure out what we want to do, where we want to go, how to celebrate these wonderful years together. Over the past week, we've really been trying to come up with something. So what did we decide on?
Nothing.
At least, not yet. There's no place we want to really go - well, there is, but money, time and the fact that it's travel - which I do not do well - are major issues. So we kind of nixed that for the time being. We'll probably go to a local restaurant for lunch - but, because of dietary restrictions and food allergies, we have to be really careful where we go and what we choose to eat. We rarely go out to restaurants. But there are two small bistros here in town that are pretty good with our issues.
So what should we do? Where should we go? Maybe what it comes down to is, the day isn't so much about going out somewhere and doing something as it is just celebrating that we've been together for 35 wonderful years and that's good enough for us wherever we are and whatever we do.
One thing I know we'll be doing... around 11 p.m. on Monday, will be the annual Perseid meteor shower so we'll be watching the skies as they light up with natural fireworks.
Come celebrate with me. Tell me what you would do to commemorate this day. On Monday, one lucky commenter will win a bag of Wilbur Buds (registered trademark here!) and a download of their choice of one of my books. Please note - chocolate will only be sent to those living in the continental US.
